The Regional government will give aid for the first time to innovation and technological development of fisheries and fish farming

February 27, 2018.

The Regional Ministry of Agriculture, Environment, Climate Change and Rural Development will grant aid for the first time for innovation and technological development in the fisheries and fish farming sector.  These grants, which can be consulted in the Official Journal of the Generalitat Valenciana on this link, are part of the European Maritime and Fisheries Fund (EMFF). They will be endowed with 150,000 euros by 2018 and respond to the concerns and needs of the sector itself.

The aim of this measure is to improve the conditions in which fishing activities and the standard of living of fishermen are carried out, to promote the development of competitive and economically viable companies, facilitating their adaptation to the markets and the promotion of productive structures in the extractive, marketing and processing sectors.

Such aid may finance measures of public interest which are more far-reaching than measures normally undertaken by private undertakings and which, without any direct commercial benefit, contribute to the achievement of the objectives of the common fisheries policy.

The beneficiaries of the grants will be operators in the extractive or fish farming sector of the Valencia Region who are directly involved in the innovation and technological development of the fishing and fish farming sector, in particular fishermen, fish farmers or their organisations developing research or technological development projects in collaboration with recognised scientific or technical bodies.

Projects relating to living marine resources, technological development and innovation in fisheries, fish farming, processing technologies and the marketing of fishery products shall be eligible.
